Carbon Fibre is a composite material, composite is a general term for a material made from two or more raw materials with different physical or chemical properties, usually distinguished at a microscopic level. A simple example of such is reinforced concrete, this is concrete with steel bars running through, reinforcing the concrete and creating a material with a combination of physical properties.
We specialise in Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Glass Fibre Reinforced Plastic (GFRP), these two materials have been rapidly developed over the past 25 years primarily to provide the aerospace and motorsport industry with a material that "is strong as steel yet lighter than aluminium." The material is now used widely throughout most engineering environments due to the unique properties it can provide.
Crosby composites was founded in 1982 by Paul Crosby in a small industrial unit at Silverstone Racing circuit, supplying glass fibre wet lay panels to the motorsport industry. Since then the company has grown significantly and now is based a stones throw for the original location in two 12,500sq feet bespoke buildings. We currently employ over 50 highly skilled and dedicated experts in the field of carbon composite manufacture.
We are capable of complete composite design and manufacture and have 5 bespoke departments to deal with each stage of a project. Within these departments is the latest technology, we currently operate a digital 2D CNC material cutter, three Computer controlled Autoclaves, two 3 and three 5 axis CNC machines, and a 6 axis inspection arm with laser scanner. This range of equipment, material knowledge and experience enables us to take a component and formulate the most cost effective and suitable manufacturing technique for each project
