A hundred years ago around 2,500 schools had farms growing their own produce. Numbers then dropped with the push for ever higher standards of academia. Despite the continuing trend for outcome-oriented education, conceived and championed by league tables, in recent years the number of school farms has grown.
Great Farmstead is hidden away like a secret, in our walled Victorian garden, yet less than 5 minutes' walk from the main school site. It is now the hub for our Outdoor Education and an open resource to every department within the school.
Our farm manager, Kelvin Dutton, is a wealth of knowledge, ideas and passion for our farm and our pupils learning, with a particular interest in 'Permaculture' and 'Sustainable Living'. This is reflected in both his management of our farm and the support he gives the children.

As a prep school we prepare all our children for their senior school education. We get to know them as individuals and are able to develop a clear picture of their learning styles and what they are passionate about. The School has an outstanding record of guiding pupils into their first choice entry of senior school and each year many scholarships are awarded to our leavers.
