We are looking for an experienced and committed clinical project manager to lead the ADVANCE (ArmeD SerVices TrAuma RehabilitatioN OutComE) Study team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in clinical project management who wants to use their experience to make a difference.

ADVANCE is a complex prospective cohort study of the long-term medical and psycho-social outcomes of UK Armed Forces personnel seriously injured in Afghanistan. 1200 men are being recruited and will be followed regularly for at least 20 years. This unique study is of global importance to military and civilian casualties who have suffered serious physical trauma.

The successful candidate will provide operational and strategic oversight of all facets of this fascinating study to ensure its successful delivery.

Your key responsibilities will include the below (please see the job description for a more comprehensive list):

Leadership and Staff Management

  • To work with the Principal Investigators to deliver the strategic goals of the study.
  • To lead the study team on all aspects and report monthly to the study Project Board.
  • To manage a clinical team of 3 nurses and one healthcare assistant, including monitoring training and performance.

Fieldwork/data/finance management

  • To work closely with the senior clinical research nurse and the study’s operational managers to ensure the highest quality of data collection and storage, and the most appropriate use of the study’s funds.

Strategic Development and Planning

  • To contribute to a range of academic efforts (strategic development, research initiatives and funding submissions etc.).
  • To participate in the strategic management of the study, including management of its charitable status.

The post holder will actively promote IC equality and diversity policies and be expected to give consideration as to how they can actively advance equality of opportunity and good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

Essential requirements:

  • Minimum first degree or equivalent in a health-related science
  • Proven track record working at a senior level (i.e. management team or equivalent) in clinical/research environment
  • Experience of managing, directing and supporting staff in a healthcare or clinical research setting
  • Experience of financial management of complex projects
  • Knowledge of UK Clinical Trials Regulations, Principles of Good Clinical Practice and research governance framework legislation together with the ability to disseminate this knowledge and information
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, interpersonal and negotiation, influencing and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to contribute effectively to research strategy

This post is full time, fixed term for 18 months in the first instance, with the possibility of further extension.
