The Senior Business Analyst is tasked with working in the COG Business Intelligence team to succinctly articulate requirements, both business and technical, interacting with key stakeholders globally and at all levels. The person should have strong data analytical capabilities, experience translating requirements into deliverable solutions and a keen eye for detail. The role also requires a strong understanding of insurance and financial services and an awareness of accounting standards and EU & US regulatory practises.

The team is governed and managed by strong Finance and IT stakeholders with vested interest in the company’s core values. The team has a number of BI and MI applications in its fold. This role will gain subject matter expertise in the Open Items application which is gaining in importance and criticality for numerous teams around the world.

The Open Items datamart (OIDM) houses vital information for Accounts Receivable, Claims and Credit Control functions needed to carry out their day to day activities. This is an exciting time for OIDM as there is currently an increased focus on collections performance and a global drive to make process improvements both within Accounts Receivables and within the wider Underwriting functions. The application has become a downstream dependency for a high profile programme which will span the next 3-5 years. As part of the programme this role will also play a key part in the requirements gathering, data quality and stakeholder interactions.

Key Responsibilities

This is a key and challenging role which requires sound understanding of all aspects of the insurance business and accounting processes. The role is central to the team and requires the individual to think laterally and understand intricacies between systems and data. It requires senior stakeholder communication skills and proficient consolidation and presentation of information.

 The key responsibilities are listed below but could be augmented or evolve based on the specific needs of the department;

  • Analysis and documentation of business reporting requirements
  • Production of System requirements based on the business requirement
  • Data and systems analysis
  • Updating and enhancing existing documentation including report specifications
  • Involvement in database design, structure and principles
  • Assisting development teams (both onshore and offshore) with queries during a project life cycle
  • Assisting testing team and business users
  • Process definition, implementation and monitoring to ensure appropriate best practices are followed
  • Specifying application source data using existing models and stakeholder inputs
  • Conducting systems tests and regression testing, including checking views, tables, SQL etc.
  • Production Incident analysis
  • Internal quality checks on code, documentation and implementation
  • Support of existing reporting and provision of data for reporting
  • Innovations in current processes by revisiting existing methods and suggesting alternatives
  • Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a recognised university
  • Minimum 5 years working as a business analyst within the BI/MI sphere
  • Experience working in a systems role in an Insurance environment
  • Experience working with financial accounting and reporting systems
  • Experience working in a technical analysis role in a financial services environment
  • Good SQL/PLSQL coding skills and ability to analyse and undertake logical data analysis
  • Exposure to current BI tools and technologies with some report writing capability
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Good understanding of Data warehousing design principles and methodologies
  • Clear articulation and presentation skills
  • Self-starter and ability to run business workshops and user training sessions
  • Exposure to working with Offshore development teams
  • Exposure to Oracle and prior experience of programming in a DWH environment advantageous 
  • Informatica knowledge desirable
  • Exposure to Cognos and QlikView/Sense highly desirable
