We have the following vacancy for a full time band 5 staff nurse in the Children’s Assessment Unit. We are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week so rotation to weekend and night duty will be required.

In December 2018 the Children and Young People’s Service at Bedford Hospital Trust was assessed as GOOD by the Care Quality Commission.

We are looking for an experienced nurse (RSCN or RN) to join us on our journey to OUTSTANDING.

What will I be doing in my new role?

We are currently recruiting registered nurses to join our committed and evolving team in the paediatric assessment unit. If you are motivated, enjoy working in a fast pace environment and are keen to learn new skills we would love to hear from you.

The paediatric assessment unit provides acute medical and nursing care to Paediatirc patients within an 8 bedded unit on Riverbank Ward. We take referrals from GPs, health visitors, midwives, A&E and patients with long term conditions and open access to the unit. This role will involve carrying out a range day-to-day nursing skills and running the children’s assessment unit and ambulatory care services.

Patients are either discharged home from the paediatric assessment unit or admitted as an inpatient to Riverbank Ward. Riverbank Inpatient Unit is a 16 bedded unit providing care to inpatients from a range of specialities; surgical, ophthalmology, orthopaedic and ENT.

Riverbank Unit is a friendly purpose built unit offering a wide range of Paediatric experience. The department includes:

  • Inpatients
  • Day surgery

  • Children’s Assessment Unit

  • Ambulatory Care

  • Outpatients

  • Phlebotomy Service

Bedford Hospital is situated in a beautiful part of the UK in the county of Bedfordshire. It now provides a wide range of services which include beds for Care of the Elderly, ENT, General Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Neonatal, Obstetrics, Oncology, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Vascular Surgery, Breast Surgery and Urology. A modern Accident and Emergency Department includes a 6-bedded observation ward. The Critical Care Complex provides both High Dependency and Intensive Care beds to a maximum capacity of 12 beds.
