Job Description

Would you like to work in an establishment where no two days are the same and where you can truly make a difference? Would you prefer small class sizes of no more than 15 adult learners that have chosen to learn, no endless hours of home marking and less restrictions on holiday dates?

These are just some of the benefits of working within Offender Learning as a Construction Trainer.

PeoplePlus is looking to recruit a full time Construction Trainer for HMP Highpoint that can do more than just deliver a qualification but can engage and inspire students that have had little or no prior education. We need a Construction Trainer that believes people are capable of change and deserve a second chance in life.

At PeoplePlus Justice we’re committed to tackling the underlying causes of offending, and to transforming the lives of offenders. To achieve this, we deliver programmes of support that help those in prison or serving a sentence in the community. Our programmes deal with the root causes of offender behaviour, helping people to live improved lives and make a positive contribution to society.

Our onsite education departments have fully equipped workshops and classrooms like any other further education college.

Here is what our current trainers said about working in a prison;

“Offender learning allows you to turn someone’s life around within a short period, providing them with new found knowledge and skills that enables them to access careers and roles they would never have dreamt of before. “

“Offender learning not only improves the lives of Offenders but those of the general public of whom may suffer the outcomes of crime if these lives were not improved through meaningful employment.”

“The vast majority of Offenders that engage with Education do so on a voluntary basis and want the opportunity to improve their lives and do not attend simply due to new Education laws where Learners attend college because they have to until their 18. “

As a multi-skilled construction Trainer you would take ownership of the delivery of our level 1 programmes across number of trades including; carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating and electrics.

To be considered for the role of multi-skilled construction Trainer you will need a level 3 (or equivalent) qualification in your main trade and ideally a teaching and or assessing qualification (or the willingness to work towards one).

Here at PeoplePlus reward means far more than just pay. Your total reward package as a PeoplePlus employee also includes a variety of different benefits as well as incentive and recognition schemes for our colleagues.

Our generous and competitive benefits package includes; enhanced annual leave of 25 days per annum for a full time role, a paid PeoplePlus Live Event Day each year, a paid Volunteering Day each year, a Pension, Life Insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme to access help and support 24 hours a day every day of the year, the opportunity to buy shares in the company through our Sharesave scheme, Refer a Friend reward scheme, Cycle to Work scheme and access to our employee benefits portal Perk box which gives you discounts on hundreds of products, services, shops and entertainment.

Please apply or alternatively email for further information – for suitable applicants that are unsure about offender learning we are able to arrange informal visits to site prior to application.
