This is one of 2 posts currently being advertised to expand our team and there is the opportunity for the Directorate to be flexible in the specialties offered to potential candidates.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals are the Lead Provider for adult radiotherapy services for Lancashire and South Cumbria and we are looking to recruit dynamic individuals who can bring their experience, enthusiasm and vision to work across professional and organisational boundaries to expand and develop Clinical Oncology services.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides systemic and radiotherapy treatments for Lancashire and South Cumbria (population 1.6 million). The Cancer Centre has grown considerably since we opened in 1997 and we are proud of our reputation for excellent patient centred care and collaborative working. The Centre saw a large expansion in 2012 co-locating chemotherapy and out-patient services alongside radiotherapy. The Radiotherapy department was further expanded in 2013/14, providing state-of-the art external beam radiotherapy from a complement of seven fully IMRT/IGRT enabled linear accelerators, including intracranial SRS/T and SABR, as well as a superficial unit for treatment of skin cancers. A second chemotherapy unit was opened in 2017 at the Chorley site, continuing the investment into Oncology services in the organisation.

The successful applicant will join a large multi-professional team of Consultant Clinical & Medical Oncologists, Clinical Scientists, Therapeutic Radiographers and Nursing Teams. You will be part of an established senior team who are forward thinking and development focused. Oncology Services are based in a purpose built centre at our Royal Preston Hospital site,

Research is actively encouraged and supported in both the central and peripheral sites, broad access to NCRI badged trials exists, support by an efficient research team. Within our Centre for Health Research and Innovation we have a dedicated on site clinical research facility and radiology support.

We are looking to expand our current establishment of Consultant Oncologists and this advert is for a Clinical Oncologist in CNS/Brain and Gynaecological cancers.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service for an Enhanced DBS check is £48.20.
