CONSULTANT IN CELLULAR PATHOLOGY - 2 posts

  • Post 1 - Head of Department/Consultant Cellular Pathologist

  • Post 2 - Consultant Cellular Pathologist

We have exciting opportunities for consultant pathologists who are interested in working within an innovative NHS pathology partnership to develop and lead sub-specialty cellular pathology services.

Applications are invited for a whole-time Consultant Cellular Pathologist posts. We are particularly interested in applicants with sub-specialist interest and expertise in one or more of skin, urological, gynaecological or haematological pathology. Applicants must hold FRCPath or equivalent and must be on the GMC Specialist Register (or be within six months of being included in the register). We are looking for consultants who are inspired by the prospects of investment in and development of modern pathology services; who are highly motivated, committed to improvement, patient-centred and team-players.

The successful candidates will be joining a team of 7 substantive Consultants at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill (current funded establishment 9.5 WTE) and 15 WTE funded Consultant posts plus one Advanced Practitioner at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Post-holders will contribute to the development of sub-specialist expert teams across Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) and Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) as Frontier Pathology moves forward.

In addition to several new consultant posts, we are also looking to identify a new Head of Department. This role would suit an established consultant who is looking to lead a forward thinking and progressive department during a period of investment and change. Those with previous clinical leadership experience would be preferred, however, the head of department is available to consultants who can demonstrate a high degree of tenacity, drive and professionalism and are looking for a step into management.

Frontier Pathology NHS Partnership is a joint venture between Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) and Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH). We have a vision for innovation, partnership and growth. Our values place the patient at the heart of everything we do. Our services are developing in line with the openings provided by our Member Trusts’ ambitions for teaching, tertiary care provision and R&D, as well as our collaborations with the Brighton & Sussex Medical School, the Universities of Brighton and Sussex, Public Health England, and our commercial partners. Working for us offers chances to stimulate and enrich the development of your career.

The posts are based at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, and the post-holder’s contract will be held by SASH. The post-holder will also have an honorary contract with BSUH. There will be academic, tertiary and R&D opportunities, and suitably qualified candidates may be eligible for an honorary academic appointment at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). The Trust offers a contribution towards relocation expenses.

The counties of Surrey and Sussex provide an ideal mix of beautiful countryside (the North Downs, the South Downs and an Area of Outstanding Beauty around Box Hill); vibrant city life in Brighton and via easy access to London; a wonderful range of National Trust, National Heritage and other places of interest, such as Wakehurst Place, the Bluebell railway, Epsom racecourse, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium, and many wineries; excellent schools and colleges; and easy access to Europe and further afield via Gatwick Airport and the nearby Channel Tunnel.

It is highly recommended that prospective candidates take the opportunity to come and visit the Trusts. Should you wish to discuss this post informally or arrange a visit, please contact:
