We have exciting opportunities for consultant pathologists who are interested in working within an innovative NHS pathology partnership to develop and lead sub-specialty cellular pathology services.

Applications are invited for a whole-time Consultant Cellular Pathologist posts. We are particularly interested in applicants with sub-specialist interest and expertise in one or more of skin, urological, gynaecological or haematological pathology. Applicants must hold FRCPath or equivalent and must be on the GMC Specialist Register (or be within six months of being included in the register). We are looking for consultants who are inspired by the prospects of investment in and development of modern pathology services; who are highly motivated, committed to improvement, patient-centred and team-players.

The successful candidates will be joining a team of 7 substantive Consultants at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill (current funded establishment 9.5 WTE) and 15 WTE funded Consultant posts plus one Advanced Practitioner at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. Post-holders will contribute to the development of sub-specialist expert teams across Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) and Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH) as Frontier Pathology moves forward.

In addition to several new consultant posts, we are also looking to identify a new Head of Department. This role would suit an established consultant who is looking to lead a forward thinking and progressive department during a period of investment and change. Those with previous clinical leadership experience would be preferred, however, the head of department is available to consultants who can demonstrate a high degree of tenacity, drive and professionalism and are looking for a step into management.

The posts are based at East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, and the post-holder’s contract will be held by SASH. The post-holder will also have an honorary contract with BSUH. The Trust offers a contribution towards relocation expenses.

Successful candidates will be appointed to the first pay step within the band when they start with the Trust (unless they have previous relevant NHS continuous service), thereafter individuals will progress up the pay steps in accordance with Agenda for change terms and conditions. For part time roles you will receive a pro rata'd (proportional) salary payment based on the appropriate pay step/point and hours worked in accordance with AfC and all medical & dental terms and conditions.

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust operate a 24 hour 365 day a year service and all nursing, clinical and operational roles will require staff to work 24/7 shifts (if required) unless you are specifically advised otherwise as part of the recruitment process.
