Applications are sought for a replacement post from an enthusiastic Histopathology Consultant. The applicants will complement and strengthen the current Histopathology service at Barnsley Hospital
The appointee will possess full GMC registration, MBChB or equivalent, and will be on the specialist register or within six months of CCT at the time of interview. They will hold FRCPath or equivalent.
The appointee will join existing consultant colleagues in delivering the work of the department based in Barnsley and will participate in a general EQA scheme (which will be funded by the Trust) as well as specialist EQA schemes as agreed. The workload covers the broad range of material expected and includes non-gynaecological cytology. The Consultant will be encouraged to develop an interest and lead one of the speciality MDTs; the current MDT lead roles may be revised as necessary.
The appointee will benefit from a spacious, well-appointed office, excellent microscope with digital camera, excellent sources of reference, and secretarial support, as well as becoming one of the team in a friendly, well-run department. The opportunity for the appointee to participate in the autopsy service is available, but not a requirement of the post.
The department enjoys close links with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and there are opportunities to pursue honorary academic positions within Sheffield University.
Barnsley itself is 20 miles from Sheffield and close enough to the Peak District to offer a wide range of amenities and leisure activities. It is conveniently situated, with excellent motorway access with easy access to the Meadowhall Shopping Centre. It is less than two hours from London by train, and has four international airports nearby. There are excellent local state and private education facilities.
