Applicants are invited for a full-time or part time consultant microbiologist post.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic clinically orientated microbiologist to work with three experienced consultant colleagues. The consultant team provide a clinical microbiology and infection control service to the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. There are good working relationships with hospital medical staff and general practitioners. The Trust houses a state-of-the-art education centre with an extensive library, and there is the opportunity to participate in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.
A joint microbiology laboratory, based off site in Bromborough, serves both the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The UKAS accredited laboratory is modern, well-equipped and spacious and provides a comprehensive range of clinical and microbiological services. The seven (COCH and WUTH) consultants also share clinical responsibility for the laboratory and attend it on a seven week rota and as required.
On call covers the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Warrington & Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and is provided by the nine consultant medical microbiologists working across the three Trusts. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the out of hours and weekend on-call rota on a 1/9 basis.
Chester is a vibrant and attractive city with a rich heritage, dating back to its foundation as a Roman garrison town. It has a mild climate, is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is situated close to Snowdonia National Park and the Lake District. There are excellent transport links to Manchester and Liverpool. There are a variety of desirable residential areas to choose from, together with some of the best schools in the country.
It is expected that the appointee will hold the FRCPath or equivalent, will be on the Specialist Register of the GMC with a licence to practise or be within six months of obtaining a CCT in Medical Microbiology at the time of interview, and will be able to demonstrate wide clinical experience.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust consists of a 600 bedded large district General Hospital, which provides its services on the Countess of Chester Health Park, and a 64 bedded Intermediate Care Service at Ellesmere Port Hospital.
