CONSULTANT PHYSICIANS IN STROKE MEDICINE
An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of the Stroke and Elderly care Team at The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals NHS Trust. These new posts are full-time appointments based at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, to develop the stroke service as per recent East and Midlands’s stroke review and support the 7-day working of stroke Consultants. There is an established stroke team at SaTH of 4 full-time stroke Consultants along with Consultants in Elderly Care Medicine providing a full range of services including stroke care, acute elderly care, rehabilitation, Orthogeriatrics and a movement disorder service. Applications are welcome from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons. The on-call commitment will be for stroke thrombolysis telephonic advice service out of hours and weekend stroke unit ward rounds and TIA clinics on a 1 in 6 rota.
Candidates for this role must possess MRCP (or equivalent training and experience) have Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, be within 6 months of gaining their CCT, CESR or European Community rights, recent experience within the NHS would be desirable.
The Department is well supported by trainees providing opportunities for teaching in a friendly supportive environment. Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital is also part of Keele Medical School teaching for up to 100 Medical students, so there is opportunity for you to pursue an interest in medical education.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust are aiming to recruit to a number of posts in Acute Stroke, Frailty / Geriatrics and Orthogeriatrics. They are all offered with associated formal and approved Royal College Job Descriptions, however overall the Trust wishes to increase its Consultant skill mix in these areas and has some flexibility in agreeing job plans that will deliver but could potentially be tailored to areas of special interest or preference.
