Applications are invited for 5 whole time Consultant Radiologists at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Two positions are for replacement posts, 3 are expansion posts to meet increased workload and service expansion. The successful candidates will join a team of 20 Radiologists working within the Trust.

These posts will be based at either Wycombe General Hospital or Stoke Mandeville Hospital with some rotation between hospital sites. We are inviting applications for enthusiastic and skilled colleagues to join our team. Applications for part time positions are welcomed.

Current service needs would provide a particular opportunity for candidates with a sub-specialty interest in interventional, breast radiology, head and neck and GI imaging. However, candidates with other subspecialist interests will be considered.

The appointee to the post with an interest in Interventional Radiology will have the option to negotiate sessions at the Thames Valley Regional Vascular Centre in Oxford.

The Planned AAC Date for interviews is Monday 15 June 2020.


Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is a District General Hospital with supra-regional Plastics and Burns Service. The Trust provides acute and specialist hospital services to more than 500,000 people in Mid. and South Buckinghamshire. There are 2 acute hospitals sites at Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville as well as peripheral sites, the largest of which is situated in Amersham. The world-renowned National Spinal Injury Centre is on the Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the Radiology Department provides a wide range of specialist imaging and interventional services to the Unit and to the Emergency Department/ Level 2 trauma service at Stoke Mandeville. Wycombe Hospital houses acute cardiology and a hyper-acute stroke service.

Role requirements

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCR (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to on call services and the general workload, holiday and sickness cover for colleagues. The department operates extended and seven day working, allowing for flexibility.

Radiology Service

The combined facilities consist of: Three fluoroscopy rooms, three CT scanners, two MRI scanners (the Trust has commissioned a third MRI scanner which will be installed in 2020). Radiology also has ultrasound, plain film services, bone density and nuclear medicine services, in addition the trust has recently installed two cone beam CT units.

There is Trust-wide second generation PACS with voice recognition and the option for home reporting is currently under development.

Buckinghamshire is an area of great natural beauty and there are a wide range of outdoor activities and pursuits available locally in addition to the urban amenities of High Wycombe and Aylesbury. Central London is within easy reach by rail (30 minutes from Amersham, 60 minutes from Aylesbury) as is Oxford. There are many excellent schooling options, both state and private locally.
