Job Description

If you’ve never heard of Yeovil Hospital before, where have you been?

We’re the third best hospital in England for the four-hour wait standard (and one of only eight to meet the standard in 2018/19); we’re the only stroke service in the South West to be awarded an A rating from the Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme (SSNAP); we’re one of the country’s best performing Trusts for research and development; we’re the only hospital in the country to have zero nurse vacancies; and we’re leading the way with our innovative, celebrated multi-agency partnership to improve patient flow and reduce lengths of stay.

We’re also the best Trust in England for staff health and well-being (NHS staff survey 2018/19).

If you’d like to work for a Trust where you can make a mark and where ingenuity, innovation and individualism are celebrated, please explore these pages to find out about current vacancies. Alternatively, get in contact to discuss what you can do for our patients, and what we can do for your career.

We look forward to meeting you.

Consultant/Locum Consultant in Radiology

Applications are invited for a substantive or locum consultant radiologist at Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a friendly, enthusiastic and forward thinking team of nine consultants.

The directorate is seeking a full time (10 PA) candidate to provide general radiology services to Yeovil. General duties will encompass plain film reporting, screening and cross-sectional imaging with CT, MR and Ultrasound, and there is opportunity to develop further sub-speciality interest such as head and neck, gastrointestinal, ultrasound, or cardiac imaging is encouraged.

The majority of on call investigations can be performed from home via tele-radiology and overnight CT scans are outsourced to a private company from 8pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends. Flexible working hours may also be negotiated. Participation in our private proactive rota is available on commencement.

Interested candidates who will not have obtained their CCT by the required date for this post are advised to contact the department to discuss these future developments.

All modalities are available on site apart from PET scanning and the department recently entered into an MES with Althea to ensure a robust capital replacement programme for all equipment is in place for the next 10 years. There are 2 CT scanners on site and 1 MRI, with additional MRI capacity provided by InHealth mobile MRI.

Yeovil District Hospital has enjoyed a stable and successful history; trusted and respected by our patients, staff and commissioners, and well-rated by the ‘Care Quality Commission’. We have been repeatedly rated as one of the top-10 healthcare employers in the country, a leading light in global stroke research and development, and attracted national interest in our iCARE model, which has established the principles of exemplary patient care experience within our hospital. In the last year YDH’s Emergency Department was the third best performing in the country and the top performing in the South West, and we were delighted to be the top hospital nationally for staff health and wellbeing!

Applicants must have MBBS and FRCR qualifications or equivalent and be fully registered with the GMC and hold a license to practice. Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within six months of the interview date), CESR or European Community Rights. Interested candidates with a proposed CCT date beyond six months are still advised to apply for the post as further appointments are envisaged in the near future.
