The Role:

AlphaSights is looking for an ambitious and thoughtful Legal Counsel, Immigration and Employment. You will be part of a global team, and you will have an impact on all phases of the talent lifecycle. Our Legal and Human Resources teams are dedicated to raising the standard of professionalism at AlphaSights and increasing employee satisfaction and engagement, and this role is a proactive and visible part of the team. You will work with both teams to support the needs of AlphaSights' most valuable resource: its people. A successful candidate will be excited about doing whatever it takes to enable coworkers and new hires to gain the right to work for cross-border moves, and about working on thought-provoking global labour law questions. This position will support global employees, with a focus on the ever-changing UK and US immigration and labour climates.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Immigration case administration
    • Administer global visa applications with assistance from our Region Heads, Legal, HR, and Recruiting teams
    • Act as the primary point of contact for existing employees relocating from one office to another, and new employees with immigration needs, with the objective of creating a seamless experience for relocators. Based on our hiring targets and global relocation program, we expect over 100 immigration cases each year
    • Field job candidate questions on immigration-related matters to create clarity and certainty for our next generation of talent. Keep candidates “warm” and interested by creating a positive relocation support experience
    • Partner with external counsel to manage bespoke, complex, or executive-level visa cases
  • Immigration strategy
    • Work with the General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, and head of HR to build an immigration approach that will enable AlphaSights to scale in each of our nine offices: New York, London, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Shanghai, Hamburg, Dubai, Tokyo, and Seoul
    • Analyze the cost effectiveness of different immigration approaches, including submitting multiple applications for a single employee, balancing pros and cons of  available visa programs, and strategically outsourcing work to external vendors
    • Educate the HR and Recruiting teams on immigration policy to empower them to become points of scale for the role
    • Advise on immigration policy as the EMEA recruiting team scales hires in the London office, in line with the firm's growing demand for native European languages.
    • Proactively improve immigration processes to accelerate the growth of our expanding global workforce
  • Employment law and policy
    • Design and implement labour law-related policies and documents to align with AlphaSights’ talent philosophy, in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, and HR team
    • Strategically review and improve employment contracts, handbooks, contractor agreements, and related documents in all AlphaSights offices
    • Maintain strict confidentiality at all times to build trust in the organization and the Legal and HR functions
    • Partner with global leadership to understand and resolve case-by-case personnel issues
    • Mitigate employment-related risk through intelligent contracting, effective employee conversations, and confident decision-making

What We Look For:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in an immigration-related Legal role
  • JD from a top American law school,  BA/BS/LLB from a top university in the UK or other relevant law degree
  • Previous experience working as a paralegal is desirable (or, other experience working in a law firm or in-house or equivalent in your jurisdiction)
  • Fluency in English (foreign language skills are also a plus)
  • Some travel required
  • Confidence and flexibility operating in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic environment
  • An execution-focused mindset, with inner drive to push tasks forward to ensure timely and satisfactory delivery
