Locum Consultant in Paediatric Cardiology
We are looking to recruit a locum Consultant in Paediatric Cardiology or a Locum General Paediatrician with an expertise in cardiology at the Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital.
Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) is a major teaching hospital that provides a number of nationally commissioned services, tertiary paediatric care for children from across the Northwest and secondary services for children in the local area. Important co-located services include Saint Mary’s Hospital which houses specialist maternity services, including a large foetal service, and a busy level 3 NICU serving the NW region. The Willink Biochemical Genetics Unit is also based at St Mary’s Hospital providing a regional and supra-regional service for children with inborn errors of metabolism. RMCH has over 270 beds and is a centre of excellence for many regional paediatric specialty services. In addition it has both Paediatric High Dependency and Paediatric Intensive Care facilities available
The Manchester Heart Centre at the Manchester Royal Infirmary also co-located on the same site ensures seamless transition for young people with ACHD into adult services. The Paediatric Cardiologists at RMCH work within the North West Paediatric Congenital Cardiac Network, a network between RMCH and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and associated district services. The network provides specialist paediatric cardiac services for children with all forms of heart disease from the North West and North Wales, with a catchment population of approximately 8 million people.
The clinical aspects of the post will be overseen by the Clinical Head of Department working within a clinical service unit, at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The post-holder will work closely with all members of the consultant cardiology team. The development of special interests will be encouraged. Outpatient clinics for paediatric cardiology are held on a number of sites across Greater Manchester and Consultants undertake clinics at RMCH, as well as outreach clinics within the network.
Candidates must have full registration with the GMC with license to practise. Essential is completed specialist training in Paediatric Cardiology or equivalent recent and adequate experience in a tertiary Paediatric Cardiology Centre.
