Operational Support Assistant (Gateshead)

RNIB Gateshead Full-Time
Operational Support Assistant (Gateshead)

Job description

We're the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and we're here for everyone affected by sight loss. Working for us means working for one of the UK's biggest charities, supporting almost two million people living with sight loss in the UK.

We're currently looking for an Operational Support Assistant to join us in our office in Gateshead, supporting the wider team to stock and create materials which benefit the day-to-day lives of those affected by sight loss. This includes books, magazines and even bills and statements: things that are essential for everyone, yet can be difficult to acquire if you're blind or partially sighted. With you as part of the team, we can help deliver these resources across the UK, creating a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss.

This may be a great opportunity if you come from a retail, customer service or administration background; if you have a keen eye for detail and consider yourself a good communicator, please read on, or contact us today for more information.

Whether you're in direct contact with those affected by sight loss or you're working behind the scenes, everyone at the RNIB makes a difference.

What You'll Be Doing

The role is to support the overall operational efficiency of the Gateshead site. This may range from the management of stock orders and management of stores, as well as supporting with other tasks where needed to ensure the operations run smoothly.

You'll be responsible for providing reception duties, including meeting and greeting visitors and responding to queries as needed, both from visitors and internal teams as well as general enquiries.

You will manage stock, ordering internally and externally and ensuring adequate stock levels. This will include ensuring all records related to orders are maintained to allow accurate payment of invoices for relevant reports. You will also play a vital part in the End-of-year stock take, working closely with Stores Team.

Who we're Looking for:

As the role involves interaction with customers as well as stock organisation, this would be an ideal opportunity for someone from a retail or customer service background.

You will be an effective communicator both in person, on the phone and in writing, feeling comfortable to speak to staff, customers and suppliers alike.

You will pride yourself on your organisational skills and your attention to detail, being able to accurately count and input vital information. You will also be able to juggle workloads and adapt priorities to ensure deadlines are met as required.

Experience in an operational support role or a similar setting would be ideal. It would also be beneficial to have some experience of stock management.

What we offer

In exchange we offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:
  • 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), which increase with service.
  • Excellent pension schemes
  • Staff discount scheme
