We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Upper Gastro Intestinal Surgery Department. The successful candidate will work with the existing established Upper GI Surgery team which is led by six Consultant Surgeons.

The Senior Clinical Fellow will provide an Upper GI and General Surgery service which will include:
* Providing a high quality general surgical service including inpatient, day case and outpatient services, and an emergency on-call commitment.
* Assisting consultants in the supervision and teaching of junior medical staff.
* Participating in clinical audit.
* Contributing to departmental administrative needs.
* Attending Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.
* Contributing to clinical research.

The unit has a well-established practice in laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, specialist oesophago-gastric cancer services, core DGH elective, ambulatory and emergency services.

The post holder would take part in a programme of theatre, clinic and ward based activities designed as far as possible to complement their interests. They would also participate in a 1:10 middle grade on call rota providing experience in a wider range of surgical emergencies including major trauma, the unit being the trauma centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria.

The applicant would also be encouraged to take a leading role in ward based care of patients under the guidance of the unit's consultants.

This will be fixed term initially for 12 months with the possibility of a further 12 months extension.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service are - Standard DBS check £30.20 and Enhanced DBS check £48.20. The level of check required depends on the role that you have been offered.
