To meet the sustainable business growth challenges of the next decade, Unilever R&D aims to transform its approach to scientific discovery and product development, through a Digital Transformation program. The Digital R&D team is leading this transformation of R&D through programs focused on Digitization of R&D (knowledge/insights discovery, virtual product design and simulation) and developing Digitally enabled consumer innovations. The Modelling & Analytics team in Digital R&D, is a central expertise team that provides leading edge statistics, data science, data management, modelling and simulation expertise to deliver predictive models and advanced analytics for new insights to the category programs across all R&D functions. The products and brands we support are across Unilever’s categories in Foods & Refreshment, Home Care and Beauty & Personal Care. RESPONSIBILITIES: Provision of statistics expertise across a range of R&D disciplines including product development, consumer/sensory research. This will specifically include the development, implementation and reporting of all statistical components on defined projects. Engagement and collaboration with globally deployed, multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement efficient, well-focused, statistically fit-for-purpose studies, analyse, visualize and interpret data, build and validate predictive models and simulations. Be able to design and build statistical, machine learning models and visualization tools. Responsibility for the quality and defensibility of statistical analyses, models and data interpretation. Work in inter- disciplinary teams that will include consumer research team, product formulators, process/packaging engineers, clinicians, measurement scientists, bio-informaticians, claim experts, and other statisticians, both internal in Unilever and external partners. Engagement in continuous learning initiatives to keep abreast of state of the art analytic and statistical computing methods and tools. ALL ABOUT YOU: We are looking for a Statistician/Data Scientist, who will support our Product Innovation and Science & Technology teams in R&D with insights gained from experimental and observed data specifically related to consumer behavior/response and product design. The ideal candidate is adept designing experiments and scientific studies, analyzing small and large sets of data and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action. He/She will have a strong background in statistical analysis, machine learning, modelling and programming. The right candidate will have a passion for problem solving, discovering solution/insights hidden in data and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes. The candidate should have a postgraduate (MSc or PhD) degree in Statistics or Data Science with experience in research or the FMCG/Retail/Pharmaceutical industries using a variety of data analysis methods and building, evaluating and implementing models. He/she should have a strong research background, and good written and oral communication skills. Essential: Technical depth, operational breadth and demonstrated fluency in applying statistics and machine learning methods in scientific research and discovery. Hands-on technical expertise in data integration and visualization to understand patterns and issues in data. Strong technical background in multivariate statistical methods Experience of applying statistical Design of Experiments. Machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks. Hands-on experience with professional statistical software such as SAS or R and JMP. Operational at programming in languages like R, Python. SQL desirable. Knowledge of consumer/market research, product development and manufacturing processes. Strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills; the ability to frame a problem. Ability to collaborate and consult effectively in global teams across time-zones and cultures. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate. How is Unilever tackling this? Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
