This is a great opportunity for a therapist wanting to further develop their specialist skills working with and adults with learning disabilities and people with mental health difficulties.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Therapist to come and join our well respected and innovative Adult Learning Disability (ALD) Directorate Speech and Language Therapy service. This is an opportunity to develop your skills working with adults with learning disabilities in education and in the community.
Therapists play an essential role within Bromley Borough's multi-agency community ALD team and Bromley College and contribute to a number of clinical pathways delivering high quality care to people with learning disabilities and their carers.
This post will include working as part of Oxleas NHS multi-therapy team commissioned service based at Bromley college. In addition, you will work as part of the Bromley multi-disciplinary, community learning disability team along with a Band 7 SaLT Clinical Lead and a Band 5 SaLT Co-worker.
You will have a caseload of adults with varying degrees of learning disability, some of whom have complex needs including dysphagia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, mental health difficulties and/or challenging behaviour. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary team colleagues including social care. The community team is based at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to work within a specialist Mental Health Inpatient SaLT Team, who are commissioned to assess/support patients within Oxleas Working Age, Older Adult and Forensic inpatient wards (i.e. non LD). We are hoping to develop and possibly expand this service and you will be able to contribute to this service development.
Oxleas deliver ALD/SEND and Mental Health SaLT across three London Boroughs and other sites and we meet regularly as a clinical team. We have a robust clinical supervision structure. The Professional Lead for ALD/MH SaLT contributes to a number of Directorate Wide projects and initiatives. We are currently taking part in the RCSLT TOMS project and contributing to NHS England’s work on Dysphagia.
We have a strong focus on CPD and you will be supported to continue your professional development. Opportunities to develop your special clinical interests will also be considered.
