The opportunity:

R&D at Ceridian is a group of close-knit, cross-functional teams of Developers, QA Analysts, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and Test Engineers. Our Human Resources (HR) module team in Europe (primarily based in Glasgow but currently working remotely) plays a vital part in our expansion, building and implementing a more globalized version of our Dayforce product, starting with the UK and growing into Ireland, Germany, New Zealand and beyond. We are excited to start work on the new modernisation of Dayforce built with the latest in cloud, microservices, and Microsoft technologies, introducing automation, increased flexibility, and responsiveness, and further capitalising on AI.

Reporting to the Development Manager, we have an opportunity for a Senior Test Engineer, a coder who is primarily responsible for creating automated tests and improving code testability. You will work closely with our QA analysts and Developers, code the framework for Test Engineers in the UK, and mentor the Automation Test QAs. You will have the rewarding opportunity to grow your hands-on skills as part of the Agile team, fully involved in the full feature development life cycle. From inception to development, you will verify that front end controls connect to back end infrastructure through testing. From understanding the specs and designing use-case scenarios to embedding checkpoints, you will ensure an error-free end-product that functions in a user-friendly and intuitive manner. 

Who you are: 

You are a Software Developer with hands-on experience in modern JavaScript frameworks, Microsoft .NET programming languages, and SQL as part of an Agile team. You thrive in a lead role where you can guide, coach, and mentor individuals, collaborating with Developers and QA to identify which areas of the application to focus automation efforts, and build the automation framework and tests using reliable, resilient code. You are passionate about solving customer problems with complex technology that is easy to use, and you want to join a global organisation that operates like a scale-up: responsively, rapidly, and with agility.

As our new Test Engineer, you will:

  •  Lead, create, continuously improve, collaborate, and communicate. You will work closely with your Scrum team, and actively contribute to the continuous improvements of applications by developing stable, maintainable, and reliable automated tests for the continuous improvement of applications. You will build the testing framework, analyse automated test results and improve test coverage to maintain product quality. You will become a product expert in all functional and technical areas, learning new methodologies and tools to improve the automated testing processes. You will participate in scrum meetings, sprints, demonstrations, and retrospectives.

What you bring:

  • The experience. You have progressive experience developing SaaS cloud-based applications, ideally for enterprise clients, and building out automation testing as an integral, embedded part of the feature development cycle. You have an interest in Human Capital Management.
  • The technical skills. You have programming experience in modern JavaScript frameworks, object-oriented languages (e.g., C#, Java, C++), relational databases, writing maintainable code, and creating automated test scripts for tools such as FitNesse and Jmeter. Ideally, you have exposure to behavior-driven testing tools such as godog for Cucumber.
  • The Agile approach. You have expertise following an Agile Scrum methodology and experience across all facets of the software development life cycle. 
  • The interpersonal skills. You have experience mentoring individuals and guiding the work of a team. You can confidently build networks and nurture relationships within teams, peers, clients, and senior leadership. You have outstanding communication, collaboration, and prioritisation skills. You can pivot to respond to needs and work through ambiguity.
