We are looking for band 5 staff nurse who relish the challenge and reward that a mix of specialties on one ward can bring. Highly motivated and enthusiastic, you will be keen to develop and enhance your clinical skills with our diverse patient population whilst working as part of our team as we strive to continually improve our patients’ experience and the care we provide.
T8 is a busy Medical ward with a diverse mix of acuity and complexity of patient needs. It is a 43 bedded ward with 22 side rooms. The ward is divided into two sides, North and South. Each side is led by a Ward Sister, and staffs undertake an internal rotation every three months between these two sides.
The North side is predominantly bay beds with a focus on Respiratory medicine and there are also some beds allocated to Rheumatology. The South side consists predominantly of side rooms with a focus on Infectious, HIV and Tropical medicine. As the Infectious diseases base for the Trust we frequently manage patients from a variety of specialisms including Haematology, Care of the Elderly, Oncology, Clinical Pharmacology and others as dictated by the need for isolation. We also provide an inpatient service to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
In addition, we are the base for the HIV team and although most HIV patients are successfully managed in the community, when they need inpatient care we provide this.
Our focus is always to provide the best possible patient care and our team values reflect those of the Trust: Safety, Kindness, Teamwork and Improving. As an acute medical ward we require a minimum of 6 months experience within an acute healthcare setting.
