Job Description

Organisation: CRUK-TDL

Team: Target Validation and Disease Positioning (12 month placement)

Locations: One position based in London, one position based in Cambridge

Closing date: Midnight 8th December 2019

Cancer Research UK's Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories is the in-house CRUK drug discovery unit with a principal focus on establishing and prosecuting biologically-themed multi-project alliances with industry. Based at the Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, and the London Bioscience Innovation Centre, London, TDL comprises over 80 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds. At TDL we bring together the best minds in basic and clinical cancer research, the rigour and drive of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and our in-house drug discovery and alliance management capabilities to deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients.

The successful applicants will form an integral part of the CRUK-TDL team working within the Target Validation and Disease Positioning group and will develop a broad understanding of cancer cell biology and its application within oncology drug discovery. Therefore, the candidate should have a keen interest in cancer research. Placement students will learn a range of in vitro techniques such as 2D and 3D cell culture, siRNA/shRNA/gRNA methodologies, Western blotting, ELISA, qPCR and flow cytometry. In addition, they will develop skills in analytical techniques for validating assays, scientific writing, and presentation of results to multi-disciplinary teams.

One of the placement positions will be based at our Cambridgeshire site on the Babraham Research Campus and the other at the London Bioscience Innovation centre (LBIC). Candidates are requested to clearly state if they have a location preference. To view more information please click here:
