Job Title: Support Worker (AM/Choppington)
Hours: Contracted hours and Bank roles, typically 12hr day shifts
Wage: £10 per hour weekdays: £11per hour weekends: Bank holidays are paid at double time
Paid 4weekly/ monthly in arrears
Location: Choppington, Northumberland

The purpose is to support a mobile man, age 51 with a brain injury to achieve a fulfilling and maximum quality life as he continues to live in his own home with his wife.

The brain injury causes complex support needs that require constant supervision and support.

Skilled and experienced support workers are needed to provide familiar long term; care, wellness and reablement support working as part of a team.

Support is typically one to one with some shifts /part shifts being two to one.

* To provide enabling support as needed.

* You will be required to ensure the safety of the client at all times.

* Ensure that you take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.

Job Description: Main Duties
* Work consistently in line with detailed support plans and risk assessments using ongoing situational assessment and decision making in relation to presentation.

Effectively support him and/or carry out activities for him to achieve positive outcomes in relation to:

* Personal and healthcare routines
* Activities for daily living and domestic duties
* Recreational, vocational and some community activities
* Record keeping
* Any other appropriate and reasonable duties as directed.
* Actively participate in and complete training and supervisions as required for the role
* *Administering of medication and application of topicals
* as required subsequent to training, certification and assessment

Experience & Training
Shadow shifts / induction training will be provided

Prior care experience
Strong observational skills and keen awareness of verbal and nonverbal communication
Experience of working with brain injury or associated injuries/ illnesses
Positive Behavioural Support/ De-escalation Techniques /Challenging Behaviour

Working with adults in their own homes or residential setting
Certificate in Care level 2/3 or equivalent
Up to date care training e.g. health & safety, safeguarding, first aid, moving & handling, meds, MCA/DoLs, GDPR
As the client has facilities at home being able to support and participate in vocational and recreational activities such as basic DIY, woodworking and recreational activities such as pool, table tennis etc
Basic IT skills

Person Specification
Confident and outgoing with good verbal, nonverbal and written communication skills
High levels of attention to detail ensuring consistency of routines and responsiveness to verbal and nonverbal communication
Patient, providing a calm and consistent approach that it positive and reassuring without patronising
Able to work in a low stimulus manner
Whilst the overall approach is low stimulus you must be able read the signals and effectively switch between low stimulus support and encouraging participation
A good sense of humour
Good general health, the physical requirements include bending, kneeling, light lifting, listening and visual observations
Must be comfortable around dogs

Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS) with barred list is required and will be obtained by employer for this role
