Job Description

Please note working hours are 4 on, 4 off, 8:30am-7pm.

Responsible for leading a team of medical laboratory assistants processing clinical pathology samples in a busy laboratory environment. Ensuring the processing lines operate to the defined quality, technical and health & safety standards at all times whilst being mindful that the patient is at the centre in all we do. Responsible that all team members understand the company’s targets and objectives and their role in achieving them and ensuring the appropriate training and development of each individual member of their team. Responsible for the operation management of the laboratory.

  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with clients’ requirements within agreed time scales.
  • Run the laboratory in line with LEAN principles.
  • Ensure that operations run to the required workload (managing consumable purchasing, waste management etc) and to this purpose, liaise closely with operation support and administrators within the wider business unit.
  • Ensure that all work carried out complies with documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, that worksheets are kept in an orderly manner.
  • Ensure that production work is conducted in a clean and tidy manner with due attention to the careful maintenance of all laboratory fittings and equipment.
  • Advise management without delay of any problems affecting operations in the laboratory.
  • Supervise staff in your team to ensure efficient and effective operation of processing shift
  • Training of new staff by ensuring engaging and informative induction in place that gives new starter key skills and techniques to perform their role to a high standard
  • Absence management including return to work interviews.
  • Managing and updating training matrices and any quality audit requirements.
  • Run team briefing meetings on a regular basis to keep team updated and briefed on key matters relating to the site, customer and the team.
  • Qualifications

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Organised.
  • Experience within a Management role, or Laboratory setting would be beneficial.
  • Attention to detail.
